This is a common question and like with much of yoga the answer can vary depending on who you ask! In general, Hatha Yoga is often a slower-paced practice, perhaps taking more time and breath in each asana. Perhaps giving the students more time to explore the asana in their bodies and make adjustments. Whereas Vinyasa Yoga is often heat-building, fluid in quality and perhaps moving towards one breath per movement. These classes can be very invigorating, stimulating and energizing.
Both styles of Yoga can be grounding, with a focus on strength, stamina and creating space in the body. Both styles of Yoga should focus on breath and breath awareness while moving mindfully. Both styles of class should always be safe, inclusive and accessible.
In order to help us recognize the difference between these two styles of Yoga, here is an example of both a Hatha and a Vinyasa Class from our Your Yoga Flow YouTube Channel, as well as a Student Development Session on this subject.

There are also lots of Hatha and Vinyasa classes on the Your Yoga Flow class platform for you to explore and get a sense of the difference between these styles of practice. It is also a great idea to watch these classes and take notes on how each teacher authentically delivers a Hatha and a Vinyasa practice differently. This may help you find what resonates for you and help you to discover your own unique tone and pace for teaching your Hatha and Vinyasa classes.
