Take a deep breath and know that all the evaluating teachers want you to succeed and pass your practicum the first time! However, there may be instances where we will need to offer more guidance and constructive feedback in order to support you in completing a successful practicum, and that’s ok!
Ultimately, we are looking for a class that is safe, so if you forget your meditation or mantra, we will remind you of this in your feedback, but will not be the cause to mark the practicum as a fail. However, if you fulfil most of the criteria but do not teach any transitions at all, or do not use any props, or do not offer any adjustments, then that class is not safe and you will be directed to redo the practicum.
If you do fail the practicum on the first attempt, you will be emailed your feedback and asked to retake and submit your practicum within 3 months.
It is strongly advised that you watch your final practicum video back, to be sure that you have fulfilled all the criteria before submitting it. Be honest with yourself, if you feel the need to re-record it before submission that is ok! We want you to feel proud of your work and we are here to support you in becoming the best yoga teacher you can be!
Your Yoga Flow Alumni Kim McGuinness has some words of encouragement:
I was really hard on myself because I couldn’t get it “perfect”, but perfection is an unattainable goal. No one is that way and our teachers know that.
They also know and recognize that one hour is a long time to be “perfect”, and speaking from experience, they aren’t going to fail you because of a couple of cueing, posture, or stumbling errors.
I got the impression based on their feedback, that odd slip ups are ok and to be expected, so long as you can keep the flow moving. In real life, while teaching a class, the only person who will notice your mistakes is you.
So long as you tick off all the components that are listed for the practicum, and you can execute each whole heartedly, and do so within the time bracket, you got this!
Sending love to you all.
You know this stuff!
This was a long course full of tons of info, and you did it!
Now the teachers want to see how you implement your learning in a classroom setting.
You are all going to do amazing!
… but it’s scary, I know that.
Turn that anxiety into excitement and gett’er done!
