We highly encourage you to use the material taught in the course and apply that to your practicum. There are many reasons why this is beneficial:
- It allows you to demonstrate what you have absorbed and learnt in the course and use it in a real class setting.
- It makes it clear for your marking evaluator to check that you have met all the criteria in the practicum.
- It helps you to create a practicum, using the techniques that have been taught and laid out for you in the course, almost like putting together your own jigsaw puzzle. Select what resonates for you and then piece it all together into a class.
Of course, we want your practicum to be interesting and creative, but most importantly we want your practicum to be safe, clear, and meet all the criteria. Once you are into the real world of teaching, you can explore many more ways of teaching and incorporating different techniques into your classes that will keep you and your students inspired, but for the practicum keep it simple and use what you have been taught in the course.
