This is a common issue when we are setting up our space to teach online. How do we fit everything in the screen without being too far away from the device or having to reorganize our entire living space in order to get the frame just right?
The key seems to be angles! There are some great examples of practicums given throughout the 200hr Teacher Training Program, as well as the practicum set-up videos, that you can view. These may just help you to gain some more insight into how to make everything fit! You should not need to be more than 10ft or so away from the device, you are filming on in order to get your full mat in the shot. If the only thing we cannot see is your hands when your arms are in the air, do not worry about that!
A popular choice within the Alumni community for solving this problem seems to be a Camera Lens Kit with a fisheye lens, macro lens, and wide-angle lens, that is compatible with IPads, iPhones, and other android phones. The wide-angle lens seems to be the one that makes the biggest difference to what you can fit in the frame. The community has shared that this is what they have been using on both an iPad and mobile phone for teaching online classes and couldn't be without it. If you are interested in adding this item to your online teaching tool kit, these are links to a couple of options currently on the market:
You may find that using a tripod or placing your device on stacked books or a shelf gives you a little more height and the angle you are looking for. Get creative and experiment until you are happy with the frame. Trial and error is your friend as you prepare to film your practicum. Go patiently with the process.
