Some teachers teach starting on the left side of the body. As with many things, it depends on what you want your class to achieve. Think about where each organ is in the body and depending on their location you can activate or bring awareness to them if your class is themed around the organs. Also, in terms of Nadis, or energy channels, Ida (feminine qualities) is one of the main 3 energy channels and runs through the left side of the body, so you can also theme your class around the idea of activating and stimulating one's nurturing qualities by initiating each pose on the left side. At the end of the day, it is about bringing a sense of balance to the body and mind. So whether you decide to initiate asana on the right or left side of the body first, the important factor to remember is that the practice feels balanced, and whatever you sequence on one side of the body, you also honor this on the second side at some point during the practice.
