You do not need to memorize the anatomical terms and parts for the final exam! This part of the program is simply an introduction to give you a foundation of knowledge and an understanding of what's happening in the body as we move through yoga asana. This knowledge and understanding allows us to offer accurate and safe alignment cues and to teach a practice from an aware and mindful place.
As you move through your teaching journey you may decide to delve deeper into the world of anatomy and take further courses that focus specifically on yoga anatomy. Perhaps that may become a key focus of your teachings and one of the reasons your students keep coming to your classes, which would be fantastic! Or maybe your teaching journey takes you in another direction and you explore some of the other depths and layers of this ancient practice of yoga.
For now, we hope that knowing this means you are able to relax and enjoy the lectures without worrying about remembering everything. Some reassuring advice is: “You will retain what you need right now, and the rest will follow when it's ready.”
